DUMBO- Six Foot Platform
Face to Face Toilets (Revisited)
Saturday, September 14th | 12:00–6:00 PM
Face to Face Toilets (Revisited) expands on a project I first created in 2017, where two toilets were placed side by side in public space. The original work questioned intimacy, vulnerability, and the boundaries of private acts when brought into view.
This new iteration emerges from my lived experience with epilepsy. During a 2022 hospitalization, the bathroom became my only refuge — the single place where I could disconnect from machines and exist alone. That moment redefined the bathroom not just as a site of exposure, but as a sanctuary of survival.
On the platform, the toilets stand as both sculpture and invitation. Visitors are welcome to step up, take a seat, and reconsider what it means to face each other in a place usually kept hidden. The work asks: how do we share space in our most solitary moments, and what forms of care, discomfort, or connection arise when those walls are removed?
